SN35 SYSTEM EXCLUSIVE LOADING INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE PC
======================================================

There are two main tasks that we will cover to load the system exclusive information into your keyboard or sound module.

1) MIDI keyboard or sound module setup
2) IBM computer setup

MIDI KEYBOARD OR SOUND MODULE SETUP
======================================

The following section gives you step-by-step instructions on how to load system exclusive files from a sequencer into a
large collection of Roland synthesizers and effects processors. In order to follow these directions, you should start from
scratch by turning the unit off and then back on again. In the synthesizers that have an Exclusive Unit Number, specifically
the D-5/10/20, D-110, D-70, GR-50, JUNO 1 and 2, U-20, and U-220, the parameter called Exclusive Unit # needs to be set to a value of 17.
A few of the units like the D-50, GP-8, MKS-50, MKS-70, MKS-80 will require the MIDI Channel to be set to channel 1
before loading.

Loading any of these systems exclusive files will destroy the data currently residing in the synthesizer or effects unit.
If you wish to save the settings currently in the machine, record a system exclusive dump into Media Player or your
sequencer or save to a RAM Card/Cartridge.

One additional note to help you understand the way Roland products deal with system exclusive files. When you call up a
patch on a Roland synthesizer or effects processor, it places that data into temporary memory. When you dump system
exclusive data into the unit, it will not effect the patch that is in the temporary memory buffer. This means that when
you have completed the system exclusive dump, you will have to select a new patch to confirm that the alternate data has
been successfully loaded into your MIDI module.

IBM COMPUTER SETUP
===================

An IBM computer with Windows 3.1 and a MIDI card is required for this procedure.

Some sequencing programs will allow you to load system exclusive data from Standard MIDI Files. If you have such a program
then you may skip the following steps load the appropriate file and send it to the Roland sound module or keyboard.

The first thing that we need to do is install the MIDI Mapper driver. If the MIDI Mapper driver is already installed in your
system, skip to MIDI Mapper Setup.

In order to install the MIDI Mapper driver, you must be familiar with Windows operations. If you are missing files or icons
that are mentioned in this guide, then you may need look around a bit. This guide assumes that you have not re-arranged your
Windows icons or files.

First, boot Windows using your typical procedure.

1) Use your mouse to select MAIN under the Windows heading at the top of your screen. You should now have a highlighted box
   labeled MAIN.
2) Click on the arrows of the MAIN box until an icon labeled 'Control Panels' is available.
3) Double click on the Control Panels icon with your mouse.
4) A box labeled 'Control Panels' should now appear on the screen.
5) Click on the arrows of the Control Panel box until an icon labeled 'Drivers' is available.

version of the driver. If this happens, choose current.

If MIDI Mapper has not been previously installed, you will be asked for your original Windows disk #4. Insert this disk and
click on OK.

6) Choose  Restart Now.

Now that the MIDI Mapper driver is installed, we will need to setup MIDI Mapper.
