FMR RNC <-> Sidechain input

Hoi,

Ik heb recentelijk een fmr rnc en een rnla gekocht, en aangesloten op mijn patchbay. So far so good.

Maar voor het sidechain gedeelte dacht ik slim te zijn. Ik dacht: Als ik nou een stereo->2x female mono snoer koop, dan kan ik die aan de voorkant van mijn rack plaatsen en zodoende allerlei dingen als sidechain inprikken aan de voorkant (en eventueel doorlussen). Ik heb een paar van deze snoeren/adapters gekocht daarvoor: http://www.thomann.de/nl/pro_snake_tpy_2003_jbb.htm

Nu ben ik er vandaag achter gekomen dat het helaas niet werkt zoals ik had gedacht. Als ik de side-chain-adapter inplug, dan reageert mijn compressor nergens meer op om te compressen. Haal ik hem er uit, dan doet ie het weer. Helaas... doe ik iets verkeerds?

Maar als ik hem er in heb, en ik wil er dan maar een sidechain kanaal door heen jagen, dan werkt het ook niet. Zie ik iets essentieels over het hoofd? Ik snap het niet meer met mijn logica.

Hoe gebruiken jullie de sidechain input van fmr compressors? Of andere vergelijkbare?

Ok, en nu iets anders vreemds...

Als ik nu een kick met een gewone jack-patch-kabel verbind met de sidechain... dan halveert het kick geluid? (ik verbind de kick vanuit mijn patch-bay), maar hij side-chained niet...

Maar als ik dan aan de volume draai van de kick, dan lijkt ie het volume van wat er in de sidechain komt te regelen.

Nu snap ik het echt niet meer...

Sidechain Insert — The SIDECHAIN is where the control rules are determined for the RNLA. This jack allows this signal to be interrupted and further processed (e.g., using an equalizer in the SIDECHAIN signal can be used to make a frequency-sensitive compressor, like a “de- esser”). The SEND from the RNLA SIDECHAIN is on the TIP of this connector while the RETURN is on the RING. The SLEEVE is the reference. A plug should only be inserted into this jack if the circuit is completed elsewhere, otherwise the RNLA won’t have the SIDECHAIN sig- nal that is necessary to compress.

Dit staat in de manual, snap het niet gelijk... maar moet nu weg... even als referentie...

Als je de in- en output van je sidechain naar je patchbay wil leiden moet je je patchbay op half normalled zetten zodat de in- en output door de patchbay worden doorgelust als je niks op de patchbay hebt ingeprikt.
In case op neutrik patchabys:

De witte plug zorgt er dan voor of je verbinding wel of niet onderbroken wordt.
Die plug moet dus aan de voorkant en de kabels die naar de sidechain van de compressor gaan moeten aan de achterkant. Verder is het handig de input van de sidechain aan de achterkant te steken in de connector die aan de voorkant overeen komt met de witte plug.

Zo kan je de witte plug gebruiken om te ducken of als key input voor je compressor.
Je kan tussen de witte (compressor key-in) en zwarte (compressor send) een EQ zetten voor sidechain effecten.
En je kan de zwarte plug gebruiken om een signaal af te tappen wat je kan gebruiken voor iets anders (wat je maar wil).

The "click" I"m talking about is the physical click when you insert a jack into a plug. In the case of a TRS jack, the first "click" makes a connection to the ring, the second "click" makes a connection to the tip. One click in means make a connection from the tip of the plug to the ring of the TRS jack. Cable type doesn't matter.

The FMR compressor sidechains are wired like inserts on a console; the tip taps the internal signal prior to the detection VCA and the ring pulls the signal back into the circuit prior to the detection VCA. Thus to sidechain from an external signal you will want to inject the external signal into the ring of the sidechain jack where it can be passed into the detection VCA.

One caveat: the sidechain TRS acts as a "normally closed" jack, and thus breaks the signal path when a plug is inserted. If you insert a plug all the way in to the second click, you've interrupted the signal path and the compressor will just sit there like a drooling retard, even if you have a custom cable that wires T->R. The "one click" method is the sure-fire way to sidechained happiness with FMR boxes.

Vond dit ook op een andere site... ga dit morgen eens proberen... heb niet veel plek meer op patchbays om ook de sidechain op aan te sluiten namelijk...

maar als niet anders kan dan kan het niet anders...

Ik gebruik m ook zo, kabeltje er half in geeft sidechain. Beetje houtje touwtje oplossing maar het werkt. En anders moet je zelf een kabel maken.

Toch op mijn patchbay aangesloten, want ook de kabel halverwege/met een click er in doen onderbreekt het signaal.

Nu via het patchbay is het toch wel het flexibelst.
