The System 800 is suitable for use wherever critical near field monitoring is required. Similar in layout to the System 600, the System 800 uses the extra power and extended frequency response available from Tannoy's 8" Dual Concentric unit. The cabinet is the eight-sided design used in all the System Series cabinets for improved low frequency transient performance and incorporates low HF diffraction contoured baffle edges. The larger cabinet size takes the LF cut-off frequency down to 47 Hz, while power handling and sensitivity are also improved to 180 Watts and 92 dB respectively. The System 800 bass unit cone is an injection molded plastic design. Injection molding allows the designer to thicken the cone profile in areas that require additional stiffness, such as around the voice-coil neck area where critical midrange frequencies are reproduced. The high frequency unit uses a tulip waveguide to precisely match its output to that of the low frequency cone, producing a seamless true point-source drive unit. The result is a near field monitor with the precision and refined presentation necessary to take on any mix.
