The EPS was and still is a great sampler in the recording environment. People always tend to think more memory is better. The cold hard fact is that many top musicians still use this sampler to this day. (most notablely Jimmy Jam) This sampler has a HUGE library and you can get expanders (2x and 4x) and the 8 output expander thru Syntaur Productions. Alot of lo-fi tracks are done on this board to create a very distinct sound. It gives a sample a little more dirt than the pristine sampling capabilities of an ASR-X. Most people don't realize that if you take the recommended disks as described in the manual, you can use ASR sounds by formatting a disk on the Eps then downloading the sound from the ASR. AS long as you have the memory(blocks) to run the sound. The sound will be without effects of course but you if you buy an effects module like an Lexicon MPX-100, This board has some serious power. The sequencer is still a great tool to this day. It can pan and copy, but the most interesting things is the track clock. you can copy a track to an empty track then use the track clock to offset one of the tracks. Then if you pan one track left, the other right, you can create some really great flanges. This is great if you are in to dance tracks. I could go on about this piece of gear, I've had mine for years. It's not the fastest or cleanest on the block, but it's on most of the records of the 90's. There are plenty of Ensoniq 3rd Party companies that are more than willing to give help to any of your problems. (Syntaur Productions and Rubber Chicken software just to name a few) The average price for this board is 250-400. I recommend this Sampler to anyone who wants a workhorse with personality.
