Dear UAD-1 user –
I hope this letter finds you well, and that your new year has been filled with music.
In December, I wrote an open letter to our 45,000 UAD owners worldwide regarding Universal Audio’s plans to transition the UAD platform to 64-bit architecture in 2012. Today, I’m pleased to announce that this transition is going smoothly, and we are on schedule to have our full library of almost 60 UAD-2 plug-ins transitioned later this year, at no charge to our users.
Importantly, as part of this 64-bit transition, upcoming versions of UAD Powered Plug-Ins software will no longer support legacy UAD-1 DSP Accelerator devices. Please note that your UAD-1 card(s) will continue to work exactly the same as it always has; but you will no longer be able to install future UAD software.
Although we have not introduced a new UAD-1 plug-in for more than two years, owners of mixed “UAD-1-and-UAD-2” systems will soon have to decide whether to download future UAD-2 software containing new plug-ins, or to stay at their “pre-6.2” software version to retain UAD-1 compatibility.
To make transitioning to UAD-2 easier, we will be offering a convenient UAD-1 Trade-In program through June 30th. This program will allow you to trade in your legacy UAD-1 or UAD-1e with your dealer, and receive an instant credit of $200 each toward the purchase of a new UAD-2 PCIe card or UAD-2 Satellite FireWire unit. Details to follow in the coming days.
I hope that you will choose to join us on the UAD-2 platform in 2012, as we transition to 64-bit architecture and unveil several groundbreaking new plug-ins. But whether you choose to upgrade your UAD-1 or not, please know that we sincerely appreciate your past and present support. We could not have built this platform without you.
