Visiting Amsterdam

hallo,

I am an american producer/programmer visiting Amsterdam this coming week. Rob Papen recommended I post here. I wanted to see if anyone can recommend any interesting music events or happenings in Amsterdam this week.. Also if there are any "must see" record shops or musical instrument stores. I'm very interested in learning more about the Electronic music scene in the Netherlands. Any suggestions and reccommendations would be appreciated.

A must see place is Amsterdam Central Station. From there take the first train to ROTTERDAM!

Must see record stores:

After that just take a little walk to a street called "Nieuwe Binnenweg" where you'll find:

Rotterdam was and still is a breeding ground for musical talent, many musical styles originated from this city with it's unique atmosphere and social mix of cultures and races. Just the fact that there are so many different musical styles available made the decision to create different labels for all these styles very logical. So following is a list with all our labels which contain all sorts of music, varying from club to techno, R and B to progressive, and hopefully it will sooth your needs and provide you with the style that you like.

Hello Jeff,

I think I have a few interesting websites for you.
www.amsterdam.nl is a very informative site about everything that is going on here. Since it is summer there are a lot of festivals and other interesting things to take a look at.

One that might interest you is the Amsterdam Roots Festival a musicfestival that is taking place the coming days.The site has an english translation.

paradiso is a concert hall, check site for agenda.
the Heiniken musichall is always a good location for all kinds of music
de Melkweg also.

If you want more detailled information or want to buy tickets you should visit a TicketService office in the city.

there are no 'must see musical instrument stores' for you. Prices are way higher then in the USA.
What kind of music are you into, before we recommend you any clubs.

Hehe, with your setup you already have enough gear. Excellent list by the way, you're a real synth fan. Then again you never can have enough. We love synth fans.

Thanks everyone for the info. As far as clubs go I'm open everything. I must say, considering the subject matter of this forum, I am not going out of my way to hear traditional folk music but if you guys told me there was this cool harmonium player that plays at a cafe or an African Kora player I should check out .... by all means!

Don't worry about them, they are in all the café's around the major squares (rembrandtplein, leidse plein, redlight district...) but it's very touristy so i would avoid that... maybe if you could find a café in de Jordaan but you have to know your way there.

Best thing to do is go to the recordshops mentioned above and pick-up some flyers
(that's what I do when i'm in a foreign city )... these are often the best parties around.
