A list of usability findings so far:
- Cubase SX 2.2:
The VSTi doesn't remember the last loaded Bank or the Multisetup
when loading a Project file -> Have to manually load the Bank and Multisetup
(works in Cubase 5.1 though)
- Preset creation:
When you create a new preset, you can't name it. Ever created
a new directory in Windows Explorer? "F2"-Key doesn't work either, so you have
to use the mouse, right-click and select "Rename".
- Keyboard Stealing in Cubase SX:
Since I don't have 2 screens yet, I normally use ALT+1 and ALT+2 for switching
between Arrange/Mixer and the Sampler. When the Window Focus is on the Emulator X,
I have to click elsewhere to defocus it before I can switch back
to Arrange/Mixer with ALT+1
- General slow behaviour of the interface:
Come on guys, I have a Pentium 4 2.4GHz with just Cubase SX and the
Emulator X running, but flipping pages from "Voice and Zones" to
"Voice processing" takes over a second, with just one zone.
- No sample preview:
Judging from the forum topics, this has been asked for a lot.
The Emulator Ultra series even has a seperate "Audition" button for that.
- No Mono channels:
With the EMU Ultra it was no problem panning Drums sounds hard left or hard right
to separately EQ/Compress them on a hardware mixer. The Emulator X just has
Stereo channels as a VSTi, but you can't use different plugins for the left
and right channels in most Audio sequencers. Workaround: Raised the number of
Audio buses to 16, but a lot of plugins use more CPU when used stereo.
Since the EMU eats my CPU for breakfast, not much native plugins left.
- Need to switch on "Streaming":
Why do I have to turn on "Streaming" when I want to load a Preset that's just 2mb?
I've got 512mb RAM, that can't be it.
- I'll stop here, since nobody enjoys reading long texts on the Internet.
