In het kader van de MagicalElectricTour deze maand in de Garage een special
met drie acts van Japanse origine en een bestaande uit lokale helden.
Dit keer zijn het electronische noise en beats die de klok slaan.
Dill is een solo project van de Japanse electronica-muzikant Yuji Inou. Dill
tourde in Japan met grootheden als Bogdan Raczynski (Rephlex label),
CEX (Tigerbeat 6 label), GEL en DISCOM, werkte samen met 3D computer graphic
kunstenaar Ayumi Sasaki, en maakte muziekstukken voor o.a. de dansgroep
'Study of Live work Baneto'.
Zijn nieuwe cd WYHIWYG werd onlangs zeer positief ontvangen, zoals
bijvoorbeeld in het trendgevoelige Pitchforkmedia (aug '04):
'I could have presented a story about how Japan's DILL was apparently
unaware that his static-y music (...) was at least three years too late to
make a difference, and it might very well have been good journalism. There
are plenty of musical examples to support that claim, not least of which are
covered in Pitchfork reviews of Autechre, Squarepusher, Aphex Twin, Plaid
and Hecker. But sometimes, it's worth missing the obvious in favor of
catching something better. (...) in the hands of a lesser artist, [it] could
easily overwhelm the senses. DILL is more interested in revealing things few
people notice, and in the process, creates something obviously beautiful.'

De in New York wonende japanse dj sniff [Takuro Mizuta Lippit] brengt het
begrip DJ en Turntablism een stap verder: hij heeft zelf hard- en software
ontwikkeld, waarmee het draaien van plaatjes een geheel nieuwe dimensie
krijgt. Daarbij 'samplet' hij zichzelf om terplekke nieuwe beats en grooves
te maken. Hij was ook een van de oprichters van het collectief 'smash TV
productions' dat op aangenaam tegendraadse wijze de heersende muziek- en
uitgaansscene in Tokyo probeerde te doorbreken met gebeurtenissen als
'anti-Gravity' en 'bistro-Smash!'.

in Nederland opereert. De mensen die op Noisecape 2004 waren weten waar hij
voor staat: harde compromisloze noise zoals we die uit japan kennen van o.a.
Merzbow, maar dan met organische bewegingen in het geluid. Een aanrader.
Makino ontwikkelt zelf 'interfaces' om zo het eindresultaat beter te kunnen
beheersen. Met zijn optredens hoopt Yutaka Makino een geluidsomgeving te
creëren die de luisteraars in de gelegenheid stelt om niet alleen op het
geluid van de speakers te focussen, maar ook op geluiden die al rondom hen
aanwezig zijn. Zijn optredens zijn soms zeer intens, en kunnen de luisteraar
volledig meenemen.

Renzo van Steenbergen is beeldend kunstenaar, die zich nu volledig richt op
de relatie tussen geluid en beeld. Hij maakt deel uit van
Rec/Play en Feedbacksociety.

self-developed hard- and software, which allows him to sample, adjust and
modify the sounds from the recordplayer.He was co-founder of the collective
"smashTV productions" which organized critically acclaimed genre-mixing
events such as "anti-Gravity" and "bistro-Smash!", in order to offer an
alternative to the 'segregated and self indulgent' music scene in Tokyo.
