Mine had the exact same problem so you would want to check if the brake is intact and working properly. If not you should replace it with another variable resistor (VR201 - 50kΩ).Mine broke cause I used a phillips screw driver (not recomended. you should only use a slotted screwdriver) and pushed too hard whilst adjusting the brake( you should do this very gently). This caused the little thin metal (the one in contact with the screwdriver when adjusting) to brake. Without that metal in place, the resistor is pretty much useless and causes this chaotic spin of the platter after the stop button is pressed. Hope you'll sort it out.
