De syntharchitectuur is een soort kruising tussen AWM en FM, waarbij de FM volgens mij maar twee operatoren kent. De DX7 heeft enkel FM maar dan met 6 ops!

niet echt bevoorderlijk voor de kwaliteit ervan, hij is leuk voor die lichtere wavestation pads, ook die lage bitdiepte
Basic Architecture
Overview and Vectors
TG33 consists of 32 poly AWM and 32 poly FM synthesizer, and it can be seen as two SY22 in one unit. 2AWM+2FM can be layered in a Voice.
Using vectors, the mix balance and the detune amounts can be controlled.
Vector movements can be programmed as part of the Voice parameters, though it stops its motion in the release segment. They can also be controlled in realtime with the built-in joystick and MIDI Control Change.
AWM section
There are 128 PCM waves including the Drum Kit, and it is said that they are contained in 1MB ROM. There are no other synths that have so much variety of sounds in such a small ROM space.
Bit depth seems to be 12bit, and the sampling frequency is low. As a result, it's rather small-sounding and noisy, which can be both good and bad.
There is no filter. Editing is almost confined to Amp Envelope and LFO.
One advantage is that Envelope and LFO are relatively fast. Fast LFO can imitate cross-modulation, like Roland JV's FXM.
FM section
FM section adopts 2 Operator Architecture with 8 basic waveforms. It seems to be the advanced version of YAMAHA PSS680's 2OP FM engine with TX81Z's waveforms added.
FM section is only partially editable from the front panel.
There are 256 preset FM settings (called "Wave"). Amp Envelope, LFO, Modulator Output Level and Feedback Level can be edited.
Filter-like timbre motion can only be created by the FM section.
Effects
Reverb, short delay and distortion is available. There is no modulating effect.

Multi
In Multi Mode, 16 Voices can be assigned to 16 MIDI channels. As the MIDI channels are fixed, TG33 can't layer the Voices, in contrast to SY22.
