Gaan we bergafwaarts?

"In den beginne" met de house culture maakte men muziek omdat ze erop wilden feesten, en het bestond nog niet (echt). Dus puur uit wens en vanuit hun hart.
Tegenwoordig gaat het daar absoluut niet meer om, er is genoeg muziek om ons te voorzien voor de rest van ons bestaan. Het draait nu echter om de (wat Trash ook al zei): centen. Mensen maken nu muziek met een goed opgesteld 'business-plan'.. Dat is het grote verschil. Het is een industrie met heuse concurenten. Ik denk dat daar het grote verschil zit tussen de 'dance cultuur' en 'bandjes' in NL. In de dance is het te doen om het grote geld, zonder ziel..

De meeste dodelijke ongelukken met wielrenners gebeuren tijdens afdalingen. ;)

Wat kwaliteit betreft wordt er nog ontzettend veel goede muziek gemaakt, maar er wordt ook ontzettend veel slechte muziek gemaakt. En niet eens perse zijn alle jaren 80 remixen vette ruk. De doelgroep weet die nummers zicht toch nauwlijks te herinneren, maar sommige nummers vind ik best wel goed geremixed waarbij een leuke draai wordt gegeven aan het orgineel.

Qua kwaliteit van mixen is het op zich wel verslechterd. Mede vanwege de loudness wars. Zo ontzettend jammer als goede muziek vern**kd wordt door mensen die het helemaal botoxen totdat al het leven eruit gedrukt wordt.
Tijd en aandacht voor kwaliteit kan tegenwoordig niet meer uit. Een album moet in een zo kort mogelijke tijd worden afgeraffeld zodat de mensen weer bestookt kunnen worden met reclame over dit geweldige nieuwe album.

Maar ik vind het totale onzin om hier de schuld aan het 'digitaal gaan' te geven. Het kan wel zijn dat mensen zich te makkelijk laten verleiden om voor de makkelijke manier te kiezen. Maar het ligt altijd nog aan die mensen zelf om te bepalen hoe ze die nieuwe technieken willen gebruiken.
Neem nou bijv Peter Gabriel die helemaal hotel de botel is met z'n Protools setup. Maar hij is al 2 jaar bezig met iets en is nog niet tevreden. In die tijd heeft een remixer al 4 albums vol met van die instant hitjes afgeleverd. Beiden moeten daarmee hun brood verdienen en ze geven er allebei een andere invulling aan. De een is niet perse beter dan het andere.

Denk dat je ipv te ergeren je de dingen negeert wat je waardeloos vind veel meer invloed uitoefend. En dus de reclame en die mensen negeren die muziek als consumtiemiddel ziet ipv een kunstvorm. Maar het gros van de mensen stoort zich daar niet aan of maakt het bizar weinig uit en daar zul je ook mee moeten (leren) leven.
 
Als je specifiek op house doelt, speelt het feit mee dat men beperkte apparatuur gebruikte.
Inc de beperingen van die apparaten, daagde mensen uit om tot het uiterste te gaan, wat resulteerde in vernieuwing.

Tegenwoordig zit alles in een stukje software, luiheid slaat toe, preset gebruik,automaten, noem maar op, geen uitdaging.
Soms vraag ik me af met al dat mooie spul, waar echt bijna alles kan, waarom dan niet vernieuwen?
Dan denk ik soms, de enige inovative muziekanten zijn de software makers zelf.

Wat ook meespeelde vroeger, dan doel ik op vette jaren 70 maar vooral 80 producties, is het gebruik van teams.
Een van de beste producers werkte samen met de beste basplayer,beste guitarist,engineer,drumdoos progger, synth progger en speler, editor, ga zo maar door, voor elke taak het juiste mannetje en vrouwtje.
Vandaar de vetheid.

Sorry hoor. Maar de allereerste house was helemaal niet gesampled. die gebruikte alleen 303,808 en 909's
ik praat nu over 84/85 ,de zogenaamde Chicago house op labels als dj internatiomal en traxx en de underground labels als Transmat en Metroplexx. Het idee om kleine stukjes van oudere nummers te gebruiken was echt later hoor.
De naam HOUSE is ontstaan uit de naam van een Discotheek the WAREHOUSE in Chicago. alwaar dj's hun vinyl combineerde met de Roland lijn 303,808,en 909 Namen als J.M. Silk Fingers inc. E.S.P. Steve Silk Hurley, Farley Jackmaster Funk en Dj Frankin Knuckels. Derrik May was in Detroit bezig met een andere gelijknamige stroming op het Transmat label Rhytim is rhythim was zijn debuut. alleen deze stroming was meer meer electronischer. Het werd toen al Technohouse genoemd

...maar als ik naar de tv kijk of radio luister komen er echt nog wel originele dingen tussen, wat te denken van Gorillaz - Feel Good inc een paar maanden terug? Of Lose Control van Missy Elliot? Of M.I.A. - Bucky Done Gun? Tja, en als je dan in 2010 een hele dag kutmuziek gehoord hebt en je luistert dan dit soort nummers denk je weer "wat is 't bergafwaarts gegaan, in 2005 deden ze tenminste nog originele dingen"

Wie het boek leest "The history of the house sound from the very beginning" en tevens de daarbij verkrijgbare 15 delige cd box /15 delige vinyl versie beluistert zal te horen krijgen dat sommige NIET house achtige nummers aan de bakermat hebben gestaan voor de house muziek. Het boven genoemde D'train nummer is er daar 1 van.
Dat jij het meer ziet als 80's funk is geheel is jou visie, maar als je goed luistert heeft het nummer zeker veel invloeden van de latere chicago house

wat mij betreft worden er nog genoeg nieuwe dingen gemaakt. alle noten zijn al wel eens gespeeld, dat wel

Dan wil ik de discussie wel ff oppeppen.
Ook zijn mening is subjectief.
Waarom staan er op die cd's dan geen ron hardy remixen?
En word Kikrokos - Life's A Jungle de franse disco plaat niet vermeld?
Want luister die maar eens en je hoort instant transmat.

Bovendien worden zulke cd's samengestelt door een paar geldlustige a&r managers, dus als je daar je theorie vandaan wil halen,kom je van een koude kermis thuis denk ik.
De meest gave nummers zul je daar niet op vinden, want die waren in hun ogen niet commercieel genoeg waarschijnlijk.
