Ableton versus SU700 versus SP606

Hello,

After deejaying for a couple of years I am currently preparing a live-act. I have been extensively diving into the Nord Modular G2 in combination with Ableton Live 5 (midicontrolled by the G2).
However, two dutch producers who I respect very much (Jochem Paap and Jeroen Verheij) have been using Yamaha's SU700 samplers to perform live.
These devices are not very hard to get but there are one or two alternatives: the Roland SP 606 and the Akai MPC 2500 (the mpc 1000 doesn't count 'cause it cannot timestretch).
Does anyone have experience with these units? The newer Roland SP 606 units seem like the best buy to me but correct me if I am wrong please, thank you.

No hardware solution is as flexible as Ableton Live. Hardware runs more stable most of the time, but nothing compares to a big screen, seeing exactly what you do, and having the incredible flexible options of Ableton at your fingertips!
Hoop up some midi-controllers and you are good to go... I tried going live with a SU-700, but it was SO limited!! It's great for loop-based tracks, but keep in mind that loading a decent track costs more time than the entire track lasts.. For a loops- and sample filled track the SU is loading for a solid 5 minutes or so.. Plus you need to go into the whole SCSI thing.. I will never go back to hardware samplers, Ableton Live does the trick for me!

Have to say though, i'm in a band where every song had it's own tempo, beats, samples, loops, etc.. If you are into the techno thing, and are planning to do a live-set on 1 solid tempo, the SU might be good for you, it IS a decent sampler, and good for loop-based live stuff, but you will have to load in the samples before the live set, because it cannot load and play at the same time. 2 SU's might be good, but you STILL won't have all Ableton Live-features..

Haven't tried the other samplers though (have a SP-808 for one-shot samples and stuff, seems good for loops too), but my choice is made: Ableton all the way!
