Probleem: Dell Inspiron 9400 + Presonus Firebox = Geluid stottert

Heb dit ook al naar presonus gemaild gisteren.

I've recently bought a Firebox and used it on my 3 year old compaq (pentium 4, winxp) notebook, without any problems, using the default latency settings and latest drivers.

I bought a new laptop, Dell Inspiron 9400, which features Intel's latest Core 2 Duo (T7200) processor, 2GB RAM, running Windows Media Center edition. Even with 25 sec latency set up in the firebox control panel I get hick ups in the music that I play (with WMP, winamp, etc.). When I switch from window to window I also hear some clicking sounds."

Ik kan wel een audio CD afspelen zonder dat het geluid stottert.
Cubase LE gaat asio testen en verliest steeds de sync.

Wat voor FW controller zit dr in die nieuwe laptob? Vaak wordt de Texas Instruments FW-controller als (enige) compatible aangeprezen.

Er staat geen fabrikantnaam, alleen maar "FABRIKANT: Fabrikant van IEEE 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller"

Ik kon op de dell site geen firewire driver (update) vinden.

Zou de standaard controller niet snel/goed genoeg zijn dan?

I got it working after setting some options I hadn't thought of or found, thanks to a helpful reply from a tech service rep @ Presonus. Excellent job on his / their part.

I'll copy paste the full thing, but bold the options that seemed to have the best effect:

Few optimization settings I can suggest.



1. Right click on your FirePod/Box icon in your system tray just to the left of the time. Set the CPU setting to HIGH. If HIGH setting does not work, try LOW.

2. Right click on your My Computer icon and select Properties. click the
Advanced tab, click the Settings button under Performance, click Advanced tab, hen set to Background Services under Processor Scheduling.

3. If you have Service Pack 2 installed: Click Start menu, Control Panel,
Windows FireWall, click the Advanced tab and 'uncheck' the 1394 Connection
and click OK.

4. click Start menu, Control Panel, double click into Power Options and set
the Power Scheme to Always On and set the other stuff to NEVER, click APPLY,
then click Hibernate tab and 'uncheck' hibernate, then click APPLY and OK.

5. click Start menu, Control Panel and double click into Network Connections, if you have a Wireless Network Connection, right click and 'disable' this while you are running the FirePod/Box.

6. Within Cubase, click Devices menu, select Device Setup, and select VST MULTITRACK. There you have "number of disk buffers", set this to 10 and click APPLY. Also make sure you are set to the Presonus ASIO FirePod/Box drivers. You may also want to increase any related settings within other recording softwares.

7. Lastly, right click on My Computer icon, select Properties, click Hardware

tab, click Device Manager button. In here, extend the IDE ATA/ATAPI

Controllers, double click on the Primary and Secondary IDE Channels, click

Advanced Settings. Here you will see Device 0 and Device 1, you'll see

"Transfer Mode" (which is usually set to DMA if available) and you will see

"Current Transfer Mode". Current Transfer needs to be set to UDMA(Ultra

DMA) mode. If either Device on the Primary or Secondary Channels are set to

PIO mode, this could be your problem. PIO mode is a older legacy and slower

transfer mode for older HD's. If either are set to PIO mode, you can change

this by either entering BIOS and setting the IDE Controllers to 'Auto' and

as long as the 'Transfer Mode" is set to DMA if available, the Current

Transfer Mode should change. If not, in the Device Manager, as long as the

"Transfer Mode" is set to DMA if available, you can right click on the

Primary/Secondary IDE Channel listed and 'uninstall' it. Once

'uninstalled', reboot your computer and it will refresh.

Kut, toch weer vervelende klikkende stotteringen bij het afspelen van een mp3 (wel minder)
Nou, weer verder tweaken dan maar. ...

Alle bovenstaande windows tweaks hebben niets opgeleverd, alleen de cpu setting in de firebox control panel volgens mij.
Sowieso achterlijk dat ik met dit systeem de cpu setting op low moet instellen.

Beloofd niet veel goeds, bij mij op de HP bak en de Apple staat expliciet dat het een TI betreft, hoe staat t op de Compaq?
Driver updaten helpt trouwens niet, 't ligt aan de hardware zelf. Erg vervelend als je dit niet van tevoren weet.

Ik heb zelf een Dell 6400 (kleine broertje) met een Behringer FCA-202 firewire interface en totaal geen problemen met audio. Maar ik antwoord hier toch maar even omdat de FireBox hoog op mijn verlanglijstje staat en ik wel wil weten waar het probleem door komt.

Bedankt voor de reacties tot nu toe. No geen succes, behalve met CPU op LOW dan, dan hikt ie vaak maar een keer per minuut.


Edit : ik heb nou al 5 minute....
en ja hoor daar hikt ie weer.

Eerst eens even op reactie van PreSonus wachten. En anders maar een ExpressCard Firewire Adapter gaan aanschaffen? En kan me iemand een bepaald merk/type daarbij aanraden? Voordeel is dan wel dat ik een 6 pins poort heb en de firebox niet hoef te voeden.

Weet niet of je probleem al boven water is, maar hier zou het ook aan kunnen liggen.
