How do I use a Motif ES Rack inside of FL Studio?
Here's how you use it:
1. You need to install the USB drivers for rack. These drivers will enable you to use it as a midi out device inside any sequencer, like FL.
2. Once installed, make sure your keyboard's midi out cable is running into your Motif ES rack's midi in.
3. On your ES rack, your "audio" outs should be running into your mixer or audio interface's instrument ins,
4. Now, go into the FL Studio options and look at the "Midi" section. You should see something called Yamaha outs. You need to assign these to a "midi" port. The port section should have a "--" symbol. Use your mouse cursor and drag it up to change the port number.
5. At this point, on the menu bar of FL, click on Channels -> Midi Out
It will add a Midi Out channel to the step sequencer. Click on this channel and it will show you the properties. It will have a blank port number. Set it to the port number you set the Motif rack to (what you did inside of the FL options).
6 At this point, you should be able to hear your Motif ES rack inside of FL Studio. Your Motif rack starts out in single sound voice mode. However, if you want to use multiple instruments, set your Motif rack to Multi mode by pressing the Multi button twice. Then press Enter on the rack. Now you should be able to load the multiple instruments into different channels. When you load a new midi out channel in FL, make sure it corresponds the respective channel that's on the rack.
7. Now this is where the Studio Manager/ Multipart Editor comes into play. With the Studio Manager/ Multipart Editor, it will have to work in a standalone mode that doesn't work automatically with FL Studio. This means, you'll have to load up your project in FL, then go to the Studio Manager/ Multipart Editor software and load up its respective project file. This will automatically load the saved presets and there's a transmit button to tell the rack to load the correct sounds for the project.
8. Make sure you download the latest version of Studio Manager and the Yamaha Multi-part editor. This will allow you to see the actual preset names from the rack without having to having to guess what it is. This means that if you load up a sound, before the update, all you'll see is Strings/ 017. After the update, you'll see Strings/ Ensemble/ 017 Hophead strings
