Deze week start een van de grootste muziekbeurzen van de wereld.

Natuurlijk, de opvolger van de populaire SP303.
IMO hebben ze een prima selectie aan verbeteringen toegepast:
- 12 note polyfonie in plaats van 8
- 12 pads in plaats van 8
- 8 (!) banks op de kaart in plaats van 2 (nog stees maar 2 interne banks)
- Compactflash in plaats van SmartMedia (cards tot en met 1GB ondersteund)
- Kan ook op 6 AA batterijen (!)
- Nog steeds geen swing, alleen 'straight' quantize (ach ja, swing lekker zelf inrammen met quantize uit...)

Waarschijnlijk ligt de lanceerprijs rond de €400, dus dan vind ik het niet zo heel erg dat ik net vorige week 'n SP303 gekocht heb. Errug leuk ding trouwens om even snel 'n beat mee te maken.
In de augustus issue van Computer Music tref je een DVD met naast de meer dan 2000 gratis lounge samples een exclusive demo van de veel besproken FXpansion's BFD vst/standalone drum. Dit is een 700 mb versie (een enkele kit). Maar verder volledig functioneel. Geen onderbrekingen en geen expiration, etc.
Ik kwam ze bij toeval tegen, ze staan gewoon op de mackie site. Wat er met de 1604vlzPro en z'n broertjes gebeurde, gebeurt nu ook met de bekende Mackie 8-bus tafels: een update naar de ONYX versie.
Ziet er vooralsnog prima uit, stevig gebouwd, ruim opgezet, alle basic features zitten erop, en wat leuke extra's zoals mute groups, stereo-schakelbabare aux sends en de mogelijkheid je aux sends en je groups te wisselen (doet A&H al jaren). EN: 8 stereo kanalen met fader, 4bands (fixed) EQ en 2 sends. Errrug handig als uitgebreide FX returns of voor stereo synths/samplers. Die 8 kanalen tellen ze niet mee in de typenaam, dus de 2408 heeft 24mono + 8 stereo.
Deze 8-bus tafels komen in 24, 32, 40 en 48 kanaals versie.

De bouwkwaliteit en lay-out van Cwejman zijn IMO erg goed.

Er is al een poosje een VSTi uit die de mellotron zou moeten nabootsen.
Maar voor een aantal critici was dit toch niet goed genoeg.
Of ze hadden een hekel aan de nog steeds nieuw beschikbare Mellotrons.
Die krengen zijn behoorlijk zwaar.
Deze niet, een VSTi in een hardware kastje zeg maar. Of gewoon een rompler met veul ROM?
Hij eet ook CD's met geluidsbanken. Is plat van figuur en zeker niet zo zwaar. Hoe die klinkt?
We zullen het weten aan het eind van het jaar. (Tenminste als ze niet hun hardware door Access laten maken ;) )

Ik heb het afgelopen weekeinde een Akai AX-60 gekocht en ben op zoek naar de originele TAPE met de Preset Patches.
De verkoper had er wel de originele handleiding bij maar helaas geen TAPE met Factory Presets.
De synth is na bijna 20 jaar technisch 100% (alle IC's werken nog helemaal goed), mechanisch 95% (vuile schakelaars en schuifpotmeters en optisch ook 95% (drie toetsen hebben aan de voorkant wat beschadigingen.
Ik heb hem gekocht voor € 250,-- en ben er uiteraard zeer blij mee; een jaar geleden was ik bereid om € 175,-- voor een Akai VX-90 (de rackmount module versie van de AX-60 en AX-73) te betalen, maar was hiervoor toen te laat en gelukkig maar want voor de € 75,-- meer heb je voor alle parameters een eigen schakelaar of...

Kwam op KvR deze nieuwe compressor tegen. Onder het motto "je kan nooit genoeg compressors hebben" even de demo gecheckt en toch weer aangenaam verrast. Het schijnt een soor eenvoudigere versie van de Golden Compressor te zijn, die schijnbaar veel lovende kritieken heeft gekregen (heb er zelf echter geen ervaring mee)
In ieder geval is de Uni-pressor een veelzijdige compressor met side-chain en nog wat interessante features. Zeker de moeite waard om even de demo te proberen als je nog in de markt bent voor een vst compressor.
Er is trouwens ook een group-buy gaande t/m 15 mei. Hoe meer mensen zich aanmelden, hoe lager de prijs.

Kwam via via terecht op de site van Vember Audio, en daar hebben ze een heel leuke sampler, genaamd Shortcircuit gemaakt. Ik hoor er tenminste zeer positieve verhalen over. Iemand hier ervaring mee?
Je kunt een gratis versie downloaden die volledig functioneel is maar beperkt tot 2 stemmen. De interface vind ik zelf een pluspunt. Hoewel het er op het eerste gezicht wat saai uitziet, en sommige controls toch beter zouden werken met draaiknoppen i.p.v. tekstvelden, is het wel zeer overzichtelijk en ergonomisch. Verder zit er een behoorlijke lading filters en effecten in en een uitgebreide modmatrix. Als je het forum leest zie je ook dat de ontwikkelaar actief reageert op de gebruikers wat betreft het implementeren van nieuwe features...
Dit is een vreemd mengsel van een VCO en een geschakelde condensatorfilter die op het filter wordt gebaseerd op een ontwerp van Jan Hall uit het Electronotes magazine. Als je wat niet dagelijks klinkend zoekt, is dit mischien wel iets. Toch hoeveel filters hebben een sync input?

Dit vond ik wel een erg origineel concept. Een modulaire midi controller! Je kan dus zelf modules kopen en een controller naar je eigen wensen maken.

Eigenlijk hetzelfde idee als elke VA hardware synth (Virus, Nord).

Ik ben erg benieuwd naar dit beestje.
Midi2cv, veel analoge inputs en outputs. Duidelijke layout.
