Creamware komt met nieuwe hardware

Op de MusikMesse presenteerd Creamware de "Authentic Sound Box" of ASB. Dit zijn de welbekende Minimax en Profit-5 plugins zoals we die kennen van de Scope DSP kaarten, maar deze keer geintegreerd in een hardware controller en draaiend op nieuwe, snellere DSP's. Eigenlijk hetzelfde idee als elke VA hardware synth (Virus, Nord).

as it is just a few days to the show I thought I give some background to what news you will see at CreamWare!

We introduce a family of hardware boxes - the so called "Authentic Sound Boxes". Please read our press release below.

While some of you will love these news, others will be disappointed not to see a successor for today's DSP boards. Take my word that the ASB boxes are no statement that we neglect a future for our DSP platform. Just the opposite. In the ASB boxes, we use a new DSP that provides a lot more power.

Let's put it this way: the ASB boxes will be just one of the products that will result out of our ongoing development effort. We are on our way. New revenues out of the ASB line will accelerate realization of our other goals. Also, the boxes will surely contribute to the fame and popularity of the SCOPE platform - so it is maybe not as much "out of context" as it might look at first glance

CreamWare Introduces Family of Classic Synthesizers in a Box

Musikmesse 2005: CreamWare now offers ASB (“Authentic Sound Box”) — a line of faithful digital emulations of classic synthesizers housed in an ergonomically shaped desktop enclosure. The first two models — the Minimax ASB and the Profit-5 ASB — will make their debuts at this year’s Musikmesse.

The Minimax ASB benefits from the same sound engine used for CreamWare's acclaimed Minimax plug-in for the SCOPE platform. While the sound was designed to be “genuinely old”, other features have been taken to a contemporary level: Minimax fully integrates with your computer via USB and offers extensive polyphony as well as preset management. The patches can be edited directly on the hardware panel or using the supplied remote-control software.

The second member of CreamWare's ASB series is the Profit-5 ASB, which is based on the sound engine of its SCOPE-platform namesake. With up-to-date features similar to those of the Minimax ASB, the user interface closely resembles the original and all efforts were made to create an authentic sound.

Minimax ASB is scheduled for shipment in the first half of June while the Profit-5 ASB is expected to follow shortly after. CreamWare will announce more members of the ASB family later this year. The street price of the Minimax ASB product is projected to be around 650 EUR (excl. VAT).

Die Prophet kloon is leuk. Hoe is de klank daarvan?
Verder doen de modules me wel een beetje aan de Virus lijn.

hier ben ik erg blij mee. Ik had altijd de minimax draaien op mijn creamware kaart. Maar zodra die in hardware beschikbaar komt dan schaf ik hem zeker aan. 650 ex btw is trouwens wel een erg mooie prijs

Interessante kastjes, hoewel mijn persoonlijke voorkeur uitgaat naar de Profit-5.
De prijs vind ik meer dan netjes.

Ik kan me zo voorstellen dat een aantal bedrijven hier niet zo blij mee zijn overigens.

Maar met dat laatste was ik je voor!

Inderdaad, in 1998 hebben we een ontwerp gemaakt van een Midi Bamboefluit. Die fluit is voor een € 3.- zelf te bouwen en de electronica kostte ongeveer het dubbele, gemonteerd en al. Wegens hele rare redenen (principiële) is het project afgeblazen, maar het ontwerp is er nog steeds... Natuurlijk wel aansluiten op een syntesizer, idg de Nord Modular, natuurlijk
De fluit zelf gaf ook nog geluid... Let wel, het project is nooit afgebouwd.

En er is een 'geheim' project voor een Midi viool!

Ben benieuwd wat dit kosten gaat. Voor ca. € 1500,00 heb je tegenwoordig al een nieuwe Minimoog Voyager in rackvorm en die is nog echt analoog ook. Maar zit hier echt iemand op te wachten? Het geluid moet wel heel erg dicht in de buurt van het origineel komen wil dit zinvol zijn, anders volstaat een plug-in versie met midi controller of gewoon een goeie VA ook. Of het moeten low budget bakkies gaan worden.....

Mp3's van de Minimax ASB staan online bij creamware. Ben benieuwd.

aargh..komt er dan weer geen sampler?

Sampler? Hmmm, ik denk dat het voor CWA moeilijk is te concurreren met de al bestaande softsamplers en dat het doorontwikkelen van de STS serie daarom niet echt prioriteit heeft.
Deze ASB's zijn wel cool vind ik. Natuurlijk is het een slimme move van CWA: R&D kosten zijn laag omdat de algoritmes al bestonden in de vorm van Scope plugins. Hooguit hebben ze wat kosten moeten maken om het te porten naar de nieuwe DSP's. Ik neem aan dat het bouwen en ontwerpen van de hardware interface uitbesteed wordt, en dus kunnen ze voor weinig geld een nieuw product in de markt zetten. Frank geeft zelf al aan dat dit betekent dat de opbrengst gebruikt kan worden voor ontwikkeling van de opvolger van de Scope kaarten.

Ze hebben trouwens wel wat van een Virus ja vooral de Prophet versie. Vind het houten kastje iets minder maar goed, het moeten natuurlijk vintage bakken voorstellen.
Qua klank zal het wel goed zitten, de Minimax en Profit-5 worden toch wel gezien als de best klinkende synths van het Scope platform en van softsynths in het algemeen.
Ben wel erg benieuwd hoeveel krachtiger deze nieuwe DSP's zijn en wat we dus aan polyfonie kunnen verwachten.
