Een hele zeldzame en een soortgelijke heeft tussen 1983 en 1985 bij me gestaan (mocht hem lenen van een kameraad). 't Is een ACE TONE SY5 MULTISTRING. Klonk erg leuk met aparte klankselectie voor bovenste en onderste helft van het keyboard. Je had een keuze uit een 7-tal verschillende klanken per toets, chorus op preset voor bovenste en onderste deel en een apart presetgedeelte waar ook nog een beperkte filtering op toepasbaar was. Een externe input gaf je de mogelijkheid om andere synths door de chorus en filter te laten gaan.

Ik heb indertijd ook een Solina uitgeprobeerd in naar mijn bescheiden mening had deze ACE TONE meer mogelijkheden als de Solina, ondanks dat die laatste wel een 'zachter' geluid had.

Het model op de foto heeft blijkbaar wel een beetje te lijden gehad

Ja, ik weet nog wel toen die Yamaha's op de markt werden gezet. Althans de hele promo campagne van tevoren. Zou de nieuwe synthesizer revolutie zijn. Nooit echt iets van gehoord. Heeft iemand een MP3?? Ze zouden geweldig moeten klinken.

Wat de GX-1 is voor de CS-80, is de FX-1 voor de DX-1. Of iets dergelijks... :confused:
Dus: wat een orgel lijkt, is in feite een super-krachtige synth!

In het geval van de FX-1 dus FM-gebaseerd.
Leuk detail: motorized sliders die automatisch de gekozen geheugenposities innemen.
En dat in 1983!

Sound-on-Sound schrijft: Lest you think that (other than the DX1) all FM synthesizers were small, neat affairs, let me tell you about the FX1. This was a huge three-manual beast very much in the mould of the GX1, but based entirely on FM synthesis. If you've never heard of it, I'm not surprised. Costing £36,000 in 1986, there's only one working example in the UK, and not many more elsewhere.
Yamaha sold Britain's only FX1 to the Blackpool Beach 'Sandcastle', where it was to be used for recitals by organists such as Glyn Madden and Harry Stoneham -- names that will be very familiar to lovers of large Wurlitzers and the Blackpool Tower Ballroom. Unfortunately, the Sandcastle was not a long-term commercial success so, in 1995, the FX1 was sold off to an organist living in the town. By this time it was in a bit of a sad state but, with Yamaha's assistance, the new owner restored it to something close to its original condition.

Now, I bet that you didn't know that I occasionally play at the Grand Hotel, Lytham St Annes. Well, I do... and the organist in question is a colleague of the guitarist with whom I play these gigs. So I eventually got to see and play the FX1, and what a beast it is. Most impressive of all are the motorised edit faders that jump into position whenever you recall a patch. Now that's what I call clear and intuitive FM programming!

VCS4: A "Live Performance Module" comprising two VCS3s side by side with a keyboard, mixer and signal processing in front all in a single wooden cabinet. There was only one prototype built, lost track of in 1983, but now known to be in the USA.

KB1: The same circuit modules as the VCS3 housed in a different case with a 29 note miniature keyboard, Prototype sold to Yes.

A design study for a follow up to the VCS3 case containing the same boards.This was believed lost until it recently appeared in Sound on Sound Oct 97/p190. When this was being considered some engineers from the EMS factory arrived carrying a briefcase which turned out to be the prototype Synthi A. There was no contest.

Synthi P: A MkIII "Professional" version with improved Oscillators, Filter and Envelope.
Only 3 prototypes made, 2 in this form with bronze finish, the other in standard Synthi A case and styling.

Hey ... dat keyboard lijkt heel sterk op een Synkey /!\. Een vroegere kameraad van me had er zo één. Geluiden opslaan op ponskaarten. Heel herkenbare klank met tot maximum 32 oscillatoren per noot. Is nooit een groot succes geweest. Op de foto mis ik enkel de drukknoppen om de 32 osc's aan of uit te schakelen.

De ingesloten foto is die van een Vermona Mephisto. Hij is nooit uit het prototype stadium geraakt ... jammer. Het zou een 6-stemmige analoge synth moeten geweest zijn, met geheugens. De potmeters zouden de posities van de in de geheugen gestockeerde klanken moeten innemen.

shit wat een mooie bak, jammer dat die nooit gemaakt is.

Hierbij presenteer ik u allen: The Mysterious Collector

"Serge T. got a call from the Leningrad (I think) museum requesting a Serge for a large exhibit being installed there. At this point, I think, Serge was in possession of MC's (Mysterious Collector) equipment. Serge called MC and asked if it would be okay if he boxed up the beast and shipped it off as a gift to the museum. MC okayed it. The museum ran out of funds and the deal fell through. Since the instrument was already boxed up he just sent it off to MC,who now has it back again."

Het apparaat is dus blijkbaar een fabrikaat van de firma Serge Systems.
