Buchla en Tiptop Audio kondigen een samenwerking aan om de Buchla 200-serie in eurorackformaat op de markt te brengen. Deze kostbare en relatief zeldzame apparaten, die bijna een halve eeuw geleden werden ontworpen, zullen opnieuw beschikbaar zijn, en dit keer voor een breed publiek.


Op de website staan de volgende modules aangekondigd:

Deze is dus van die black corp Dude zie prijs verschil. Prijs in handwerk of 10.000 loopband ok maar wat is het verschil in geluid en componenten daar ben ik erg benieuwd naar.

Ah, dat wist ik niet. Ik dacht dat Buchla nog altijd door de genderneutrale hoogsensitieve nieuwetijdsmensen uit een hippie commune aan de West Coast werden gesoldeerd in het maanlicht.

Ik had op Superbooth best plezier met die Easel, maar ik vind het ding echt veel te duur voor wat het is.

Van de modules in het originele Buchla-formaat zullen er ook een stuk minder verkocht worden dan de eurorack-compatibles van Buchla/Tiptop. Dit los van de prijs.

Ze zitten er gewoon mee in een niche waar 1000 euro meer of minder per module niet uitmaakt en de behoefte aan zo dicht mogelijk bij origineel hoog is.

Ik ben wel geïnspireerd door buchla hoor.

Ik zet overal slider caps op. En een diy low pass gate met titanium en keramiek elementen maar dat duurt nog even.

Kortom ik kocht vroeger ook dure modules maar die klonken ook echt exceptioneel.

Zijn die tiptop buchla’s met ic’s en de duurdere volledig discreet wellicht?

Ik ben benieuwd naar het voordeel van zo'n slider cap op een potentiometer ten opzichte van een draaiknop?
Of is het gewoon dat je hem sneller open en dicht kan draaien zo?

Ik vind kleine knoppen lekkerder op deze bak ivm vingers en de shafts zijn D dus je voelt de stand waar ze in staan.

The theory of shifting frequencies using analog multipliers was first invented in the early 1900s. However, in 1971, Don Buchla took this concept and explored how it could interact with the audio signals of his modular synthesizer. By combining it with a balanced modulator into a single module, he likely created one of the world's first analog audio effect processor modules.

Zo was het bijna wel. Daardoor konden mensen als Ciani een eigen synth hebben. Ook zo met Serge. Ironisch genoeg zijn Buchla en Serge in 4U nu voor de meeste mensen totaal onbereikbaar. Maar gelukkig zijn de TipTop modules wel goed te doen. Jammer dat de symmetrie van 4U soms verloren gaat in de eurorack vertaling.

Er is natuurlijk ook Buchla DIY. Serge ook.
Mijn buurman heeft een heel systeem zelf gebouwd.
Heeft ook fouten van Roman gecorrigeerd in sommige modules.

Heb zelf 2 Tip Top Euro modules, de Sequencer en Voltage Processor.
Die sequencer heb ik gekocht door de 5 step sequencer in mijn Easel zodat ik dezelfde concepten in euro kan doen.
Vind de kwaliteit heel goed en de indeling ook. 4U lijkt mij een waste of space.
Als mijn euro 4U zou worden moet ik verhuizen.
Soundwise is het voor mij niet zo dat Buchla nu beter klinkt dan Eurorack.
Maar grote panels en een duidelijke filosofie is niet aan Eurorack besteed tenzij je het bij 1 fabrikant houd.

Jammer dat Euro geen 4u is. Ik ben destijds gestopt met euro mede daardoor . Maar ja voor nu is het ok. Maar 4u heeft mijn voorkeur

Kan me voorstellen dat als de serie goed loopt (en dat verwacht ik wel) dat ze misschien wel meer nog gaan uitbreiden dan dat eerst de bedoeling was?
Eigenlijk heb ik al genoeg aan m'n 9U maar een rack met die 200 serie blijft wel aanlokkelijk moet ik zeggen.

Twee nieuwe Buchla/Tiptop-modules voor het nieuwe jaar:

Programmable Pulser Model 242t

The 242, was designed in 1970 as an event-based trigger module for CBS.
The lower section features a matrix. Don’s original design used a mechanical pin matrix, but in the 242t, we’ve replaced it with an LED array and X/Y knobs, reminiscent of those found in vintage electronic games. This modern alternative improves long-term reliability and helps keep the module’s cost reasonable. The upper section includes multiple trigger and gate output combinations and controls. This module revisits early methods of rhythmical generation and introduces Don’s concept of a master clock, the “Pulser”.

Quad Sample and Hold / Polyphonic Adapter Model 264t

From the original 1970s catalog:

“Four independent sample-and-hold circuits, plus a specialized logic circuit for expediently implementing polyphonic patches.”
This module became incredibly interesting once we started using it and just like every 200-series module we’ve reissued, it adds another layer of functionality to the system. The sample-and-hold circuits perform as expected, and the polyphonic adapter is exceptionally deep. With the 259t already available, the 264t adds four ART outputs, user-selected keys and scales, further enhancing the 264t and Don’s vision for polyphony. So now, the 264t can perform all its original functions, plus adding ART signals for your 259t.
