Persoonlijk vind ik het echt belachelijk veel geld; het enige wat je koopt is een afstandbediening voor je software.
Het apparaat zelf doet niets met je audio of midi, er zit geen sequencer bij, het is louter een afstandsbediening, een mooie, een handige, maar wel een prijzige.
Ik heb zelf een Roland Studio Package Pro, oftewel een SI-24. Die heeft vrijwel dezefde mogelijkheden, maar meer faders tegelijk (12), ik weet wel dat je in principe oneindig veel faders hebt, maar ik heb er graag een hoop direct beschikbaar zonder de nieuwe groep faders te moeten selecteren; je hebt er immers slechts een beperkt aantal direkt in zicht/voor handen. Komt bij dat de SI-24 word geleverd met mic-pres en met software (logic). Hij werkt ook met Pro Tools, of Cubase, maar het komt erop neer dat je met de SI-24 een totaal pakket hebt waarmee je direkt aan de slag kunt, voor zo'n 700 tot 800 euro bij Feedback.
Als ik dan kijk naar de prijs van de Mackie Universal afstand bediening

Can I use the Mackie Control Universal as an audio mixer?
In a sense...Mackie Control Universal will control your virtual mixer that lives within your preferred audio application. As you move the faders on the Mackie Control Universal, you will see the adjustments being made on the screen and you will hear the results through your audio interface. Hence the Mackie Control Universal gives you the feeling that you are using an audio mixer even though no audio signals are actually passing through it.
Can I use the Mackie Control Universal with my laptop, or as a mobile studio?
Absolutely! There are a wide variety of USB and FireWire MIDI interfaces that can interface the Mackie Control Universal with your laptop computer. And because the Mackie Control Universal ships with an external AC adaptor for its power supply, it can be used in any country around the world.

Het is ook veel geld voor een stukje pure luxe eigenlijk, totdat je er eentje hebt en je afvraagt dat je zolang zonder hebt kunnen doen. Ik zelf gebruik de Mackie in combinatie met Logic en dat werkt retegoed. Ik weet niet precies hoe het zit met andere controllers, maar de integratie Mackie/Logic geeft je veel visueel feedback op het display zodat je precies weet welke fader en potmeter wat voorstelt. Je moet wel een goede midi interface met meerdere inputs en outputs want de Mackie heeft een eigen midi in en midi out nodig.
Maar strikt genomen blijft het een veredelde afstandbediening...

Ik heb zelf de Yamaha 01X. Is opzich een ideaal apparaat. Je kan hem inderdaad als controller gebruiken (zelfs onder het Mackie protocol) maar ook als stand alone mixer met parametische eq, effecvt enz. op elk kanaal (3 lagen van 8 kanalen)
