AKAI MPC2000 <--> PC met zips

Het zou ook kunnen zijn dat je met Win98 SE1 of SE2 je weer mank loopt omdat in die versies de FAT16 ook weer anders kan zijn.

Bootdiskette is ook wel handig, weet alleen niet of de gemiddelde gebruiker zelf ook zoiets kan 'bouwen'.
Trouwens slim om een 98 boot partitie te hebben, voor het geval dat.
Heb er altijd nog eentje op CD gefikt en kan hem er zo weer op zetten als het moet.

En volgens mij als je in dit geval een Mac hebt moet je iemand zien te vinden die zo'n zip voor je kan formatteren. Die zip schijf kan anders een Mac toch wel lezen? (desnoods met een tooltje ofzo)

Backing up MPC disks to PC:

There are two issue with backing up an MPC2000 disk. One is the disk is not
in a windows format and the other is that windows likes to write in a
particular section of the disk that the MPC2000 uses to identify the disk as
MPC format (hence the lost partitions issue).

First, make sure windows will not write to the Disk OEM ID field with a
registry entry:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem\NoVolTrack]
"MPC2000"=hex:03,00,4d,50,43,32,30,30,30,20
"MPC-60"=hex:03,00,4d,50,43,2d,36,30,20,20

(note that the 2nd entry is for MPC3000 and MPC-60 only). I will not give
instruction on how to modify registry entries since there is plenty of info
in the internet for that already. Plus it can be dangerous to the health of
your computer (hint: use regedit4). Reboot computer after making the above
entry.

Second, use disk to file to create file images of the disks to store on PC:

This has to be used due to the partitions and the long filenames of the MPC
format. You CANNOT copy the files using windows explorer. You WILL corrupt
the data.

Once done, you will have about a 96 meg file on your computer. You can
restore the image back to a Zip as necessary. I usually archive the images
to a CD for long term storage or use CD writing software to write the image
to CD in MPC format.
