Analogue Heaven is met iets leuks bezig.

Allerlei verschillende modular deuntjes, die dan beoordeeld moeten worden op verschillende dingen.
Echt van super vage geluiden (track 7) tot lekker gefreakte shit (track 2).

The 2nd Aleatoric Competition is now open for voting.

This is the 2nd competition involving several various composers and their
analog modular synths. The first competition was held about 2 months ago
and generated a fair bit of interest.

But word has gotten out and this time through, there are over twice as many
submissions!

Voting is open to all and everyone is encouraged to do so.

The URL below tells the story, gives instructions on voting, and contains
the MP3's.

As before, the identity of the composers is being kept secret until after
the voting. The analog systems used are a secret as well, and it is up to
the voter to decide whether it's Blacet or PAiA, Moog or ARP, EML or
WHATEVER! This is a good opportunity to test your ears. If nothing else,
you can learn what the definition of "aleatoric" is. :-)

You can still listen, even if you don't vote.

Maar Johnny..

Een LFO.. sinus of triangle. uitgang naar CV in van VCA1.. inverse uitgang naar CV in van VCA2. De output van je geluid via een multiple naar de audio ins van de VCA's.. en hopsakee .. of denk ik nou te makkelijk ?

Een slew limiter op de "negative edge" van de LFO kan 'gaten' in je geluid voorkomen..

Erm.. okee.. een stereo panner is één enkele module (hopelijk met een simpele dedicated LFO on board)..

Haha.. modulars.. het is een ziekte!

p.s. Ik heb al een module waarmee ik geluid op een stereo plug kan mikken.. http://www.doepfer.de/a181.htm
Maar een panner is toch wel erg lekker erbij.. Net als bijvoorbeeld een vc Mixer. Maar goed... Eigenlijk gewoon een miljoen VCAs is eigenlijk ook voldoende.

Maar heb je naar de tracks geluisterd. Bizar!

Bizarre geluiden! Echt mega, track 3 is erg goed gedaan met alle formant stemmetjes etc.
Stereo sweeps zijn ook erg gaaf wanneer je de ADSR's van de VCA's gekruist met de AM modulatie input's aansluit. Maar je hebt inderdaad snel adsr's te kort.
Ik ga die gast es mailen of hij misschien kan regelen of de designers wat van hun geheimen kunnen publiceren. Of is zoiets er al? Misschien is het een idee om zelf wat geluidjes onder modular bezitters te publiceren; lijkt me intressant om zowel de verschillende gebruikers, als de verschillen in modulars te horen.

Uiteindelijk zal bekend gemaakt worden, wie met wat voor synths alles gemaakt heeft. Echt een zeer gevarieerde set modular tracks. Is zekers geen muziek te noemen, maar gefreak! Lekker!

absoluut! ook om gewoon statisch in 'fake stereo' te werken; ik gebruik bijna altijd de panner als standaard audio uit in mijn A-100 systeempje. natuurlijk, een LFO en 2 VCA's doen het ook maar dan ben je dus drie modules "kwijt" plus de nodige extra kabels. Same thing applies voor een VC mixer - gewoon altijd lekker om erbij te hebben en wel zo makkelijk snel in het gebruik.

Sorry if this gets cross-posted.
I just finished up an interesting "modular based" track that I want you
guys to hear. Its definitely for those of you that are tired of the old
steady tempo, 4/4 routine! Its also a great chance for those of you that
always wondered what Vactrols and/or Wiard modules sound like. Its also easy
to hear why the Buchla and Wiard are sometimes talked about like they're
cousins
The URL for the song is below this e-mail. Its 4.2MB. I wish I could
have gotten it smaller but the sound becomes so bad it defeats the purpose.

There are only 3 main sounds in this track...

1. the ring mod VCOs throughout the song
2. strange flappy percussive sound
3. drone/screeching sound

1. For the ring mod sound I ran 2 MOTM Sines into the MOTM VCA/Ring Mod.
From there it went into the Wiard Borg filter which basically acted as a VCA
or "gate" as Don Buchla use to say. I triggered the Borg with a MOTM 800 EG.
Since the MOTM EG only puts out +5V I had to run it into the Blacet VCA to
boost the CV so I would be able to open the Borg's spectrum up all the way.
What a difference it makes! Before I had the Blacet I would only give the
Borg +5 signal so I wasnt using its full potential. With a healthy trigger
the Borg's Vactrols EXPLODE!!! Nothing else like it. BTW, the ring mod
melody was from the Pro-One's internal sequencer. I tapped the CV out of the
Pro-One and into my VCO's.
2. The flapping percussion was mainly a Wogglebug going into the Borg. I
triggered the Borg by taking the rimshot out of an 808 and plugging the
output of it into the Blacet and then running that into the Borg's "envelope
input," for lack of a better phrase.. I programmed semi-random beats to make
the Wogglebug pattern elusive. On this sound you can REALLY hear the effect
of the Vactrols in the Borg. Its very hard to put it into words. If you're a
Vactrol fan you know what I mean.
3. The 3rd sound consists of 2 MOTM VCO's having their 1V/OCT jacks
mangled by a Wogglebug. The VCO's are running through the MOTM 490 VCF (Moog
904a clone) this time. I still was using the 808 to trigger the EG's which I
know routed to the MOTM VCA which was the final destination. The only
difference is this time I would start and stop the 808 when my ear saw fit.
BTW, everything went through a Moogerfooger delay pedal.
