Klein stukje copy/paste vanaf mijn site, want het ging tenslotte over de loudness war:
Loudness Normalization
Quite recently things have started to change with the release of Mastered For iTunes (MFiT) and more important, Loudness Normalization. What loudness normalization does, is instead of looking at the maximum peaklevel, it's working on the RMS level. This changes the way we listen and enjoy our music entirely. It doesn't matter at all how loud your music is mastered since it will always be played back at the same level/volume whatever you call it. As a matter of fact, music with dynamics will sound better then overly loud/distorted/limited music. This is because the peak to RMS ratio will be higher and so you have way more headroom for the peaks. As a result, your music will sound punchier, more open and yes, even louder. If you still want things to sound heavily compressed, squashed and limited, that is still possible but the good news is, you don't have to if you don't want to.
Now you probably think that is something that will probably happen somewhere in the future. Well, I have got some news for you, it's already happening! iTunes has a 'soon to be on by default' function called SoundCheck, Spotify has this function since 2009 and is turned on by default and winamp has ReplayGain just to name a few.
This is not 'some way' to end the loudness war, this is the future!
gewoon wat audiostocker in winamp doet dus...
