Ik vind deze demos ontzettend schril, koud, metaal achtig (bestaat dat?) en digitaal klinken.
Ligt dat aan de demo's, de synth zelf of gewoon aan mij?

Heeft er inmiddels al iemand ervaringen met deze synthesizer?

Hij is wel in productie genomen, maar er zijn er niet veel van gemaakt. Ook was hij (geloof ik) monofoon en (toen) rond de fl. 10.000,- (niet iets wat ik in mijn binnenzak had zitten).

The VP1 was the polyphonic partner to the VL1, which went on sale in 1994. The VP featured string pads, brass, metallic, kotos, marimbas and 'screaming lead' sounds. I believe only two were ever sold - one to a collector in Germany, who possibly loaned his VP1 to the Musik Store in Koeln so they could produce the only VP1 sample disc in existence (it's still available, in Akai format).

The VP had a 76 note keyboard and looked exactly like what it was - a scaled-up version of the VL1. The string pad sound was sampled by Yamaha themselves for the Motif, and you can here it as the 'VP Strings' patch. It's a nice, warm string sound, but not remotely realistic. Quite similar to the string pads in the Korg Z1, which is probably the closest thing to the VP1 and ultimately more flexible. A much more realistic string sound is included on Technics' WSA keyboard.

The VP1 remains a fascinating synth, because it came so close to release. Yamaha seem to have turned their back on polyphonic virtual acoustics these days, as the public didn't seem as taken with this new approach to synthesis as the manufacturers hoped.

De Yamaha virtual accoustics technologie is physical modeling. En de enige synth die je kan kopen die polyfone physical modeling aan boord heeft is de Korg Z1, deze is zéér flexibel en klinkt in tegenstelling tot deze samples zeer expressief en wel 'warm', in zoverre dat mogelijk is voor een digitale synth.

dus, ben je geintereseerd in Physical Modeling, get a Z

Het verbaast mij steeds dat deze synth zo onpopulair is, wel hij krijgt super goede reviews maar toch niet veel mensen die er een hebben denk ik, je ziet ze dan ook regelmatig te koop staan voor de belachelijke prijs van 450-800 euro.
Voor een monster van een synth als deze, met een enorm breed geluidspallet. zou ik niet twijfelen, wel dat heb ik dan ook niet gedaan

De VP1 is nooit in productie genomen, net zoals de Korg Oasys, die ook al 10 jaar geleden als een soort 'moedersynth' werd gepresenteerd en waarvan de Trinity en de Z1 (hoe heette die kleine monosynth van Korg ook alweer met Virtual Lead mogelijkheden? Modelling synth...) als afstammeling zijn gekomen. de VL1 met 49 toetsen is wel in productie genomen (niet te betalen destijds en een leuke demo van gezien door Peter Baartmans met uitleg van Ernst Bonis). Nu nog te koop als expansion board of als VL70m.

Klopt, maar dat is niet de eerste Oasys zoals door Korg ontwikkeld. de synthesemethode stond aan de wieg van de Prophecy (inderdaad ja, thnx) en de Trinity. Zo ergens rond 1992 als ik me de MusicMaker goede herinner.

klopt, dit workstation is totaal nieuw ontwikkeld maar wel met dezelfde filosofie erachter.

btw Korg heeft ook nog wel de Oasys PCI uitgebracht, in "99 dacht ik
