I have a couple of the below readers and my experience is that OS 1.14 of the
MPC2000XL does not support them. Reason is that most of the readers are IDE
and 1.14 does not support IDE drives. But the MPC2000XL does support ATAPI
devices and the most commonly used one is the ATAPI Zip Drive. Some of the
below manufacturers do make ATAPI readers and since they are a relatively new
item, I have not had a chance to test any.

However, I think the MCD is an IISDMC, but I do not recall the actual
manufacturer, but many retailers use the same model number. IISDMC is ATAPI
compliant so it should operate in the MPC2000XL. Since the IISDMC is not
terribly hard to find, I see little reason to hunt down other models. Just in
case you have some other model, or can get one cheaper, there are a few things
to look out for:
1) Fully compatible with ATAPI
2) Adopts native driver
3) Avoid anything that has drivers (MagicRam quotes "Device drivers for ....").

It has been said that there is an update to 1.14 to support the drive, but I
have not been able to confirm this myself. If so, I think I have this OS
already, and strangely it is nearly two years old.
