Ik ben dit op een ander forum tegen gekomen ivm isolatie pads voor onder je monitors. Kan iemand een eigen ervaren mening vellen? Heb er zelf nooit echt gebruik van gemaakt.
"I would recommend AGAINST using packing foam (or even acoustical foam) or other such pliant material to "decouple" the speakers from the desk.
A lot of people do this kind of thing, and there are even commercial products for this (e.g., Auralex MoPads, etc.), but as a general rule it is ill advised, because it can give the speaker a less stable fulcrum against which to work. If the speaker box moves even microscopic amounts (e.g., when a kick drum is played through the speaker), it can cause time smearing, because the tweeter will be moving while it is trying to recreate very small sound waves.
Adding mass is the way to go with this. Better to set the speakers on concrete or stone slabs than to use lighter, less dense materials. Because of their density, concrete and stone have a very low resonant frequency, and will help to stop unwanted resonances above the resonant frequency of the concrete or stone. (This is a very rough, overgeneralised explanation, but I'm trying to keep it short. )
Even better would be to put the computers on the floor and instead place the speakers on concrete blocks (e.g., breeze blocks) set on the desk where the computers were.
Better still is to put the speakers on HEAVY stands on either side of the desk. And I don't mean cheap metal stands from musiciansfriend.com. Any speaker stands used for reference listening should be very rigid and heavy. For heavy duty metal stands, any hollow tubing should be filled with sand or lead shot, and they should have a very solid, heavy base. Even better (and dirt cheap) would be to use concrete for stands. Use premade concrete pillars from the local lawn and garden shop (or pour your own), or use a couple of stacks of concrete breeze blocks."
