the mod was done by me, and it costs $350 to have your machine modded. i
used to be able to do it in several colors, but most of them are no longer
available... i have to check what colors are left....

hi
i can supply you with a panel of the size you mention and a pacel inverter for $45.99 (which is a discounted rate and includes shipping).I have done a similar thing to my Boss DR660 . I have a seperate DC power supply coming in to the machine and have also fitted a switch , so you can turn on or off to conserve the life of the panel. It is very easy to wire up the inverter to an external power supply and el panel. If you are interested, please forward the funds to my paypal account robinives@backlights.co.uk and ill get them sent off the same day.ill include a wiring diagram as well if you require. If you use paypal just include a short note , i will remember who you are though.any chance you could take a few photos of the installation for me and send via e-mail ?
best regards,
robin ives

Subject: Roland R8 Backlighting
Hello,
I'm the owner of a Roland R8 drum machine. These machines normaly don't have backlit displays, but after I saw these pictures I decided to add a backlight to my R8 also.

Yesterday I opened my machine to take a look at the display. its seems te be possible to place a electro-luminescent panel behind it, the space is there. A rough measure tells that the panel should be 3.5cm high and 16cm wide. After pulling off the reflective sticker that is stuck to the bottom it should look like a charm. But it should work too. Als the R8 is not backlit by default, there is no inverter or means to connect them available. Do you think is is possible to get this working bij soldering the P5 invertor to an elecric lead coming into the R8? And what would be the price of a panel measuring 3.5x16cm?
Thanx in advance for you information,
Murx Cedarstorm
