ik ben ongetwijfelt niet de enige absynth gebruiker hier. dus post hier je stoerste geluidsfragmenten gemaakt met alleen maar absynth. :D
hier eentje van mij. tis een loopje dat ik direct vanuit absynth heb opgenomen.
dus geen extra effecten gebruikt. er word ook geen gebruik gemaakt van samples ofzo.
alles is volledig gesequenced met de envelopes.

wat bedoel je daar pcies mee? dat je envelope instellingen tevens hebt 'opgenomen'?
 
In absynth zitten multi-stage envelopes. Dan kan je dus een sequence maken met alleen de envelopes.. zoek eens op screenshots, dan zal je het zien. Dit kan dus gewoon bijv > /\/\_/\_/\/\ Absynth 3.0 is echt :okdan:

Lekker zo'n middagje knutselen met Absynth:

Geluiden opgenomen met minidisk en mic voor de noisy dingetjes.

Eerst starten met een basic geluid maken, dat recorden en weer importeren als sample bron in de 3 oscillators. Dat weer bewerken en weer opnemen, etc.. erm shit geheime werkwijze bekend gemaakt..nou goed:

Isniezot, sequence jij echt zelf beats in Absynth met die envelopes? Ik vind de user interface om de envelopes te editen echt *gruwelijk* irritant.
 
leuk geluid die Absynth maar dat editen er van gaat me ECHT ECHT te ver.
Ik teken liever wat in een mn sequencer met noodtjes.

Absynth is an extremely flexible synthesizer, capable of an enormous variety of sounds. In fact what’s striking when you begin exploring the Factory Presets for the first time is that, not only can Absynth imitate sounds you might expect to hear coming from classic synths like Pro-52 or FM7, it can also do some surprising things you normally wouldn’t expect a synthesizer to be capable of at all.

Patches like “Electro 132 BPM” and “Ozark vampire clan” for example – where hitting one key produces a layered, looped rhythmic phrase – certainly aren’t the kind of thing you expect to hear coming from a normal synth. A synth, a drum machine and a sequencer, maybe. Or perhaps a sampler, playing back pre-recorded loops.

However, Absynth doesn’t play samples, and doesn’t have a built-in sequencer. It doesn’t even have an arpeggiator, in fact. So how is it done?
Believe it or not, it’s all down to the envelopes.

Envelopes basics

ABSYNTH offers up to 68 breakpoints for each envelope

Of course, almost every synth uses envelopes, usually to alter the volume or brightness (filter cut-off) of a sound throughout its attack, decay, sustain and release portions. Absynth’s envelopes can do this too, but they offer a great deal more flexibility beyond that.

First of all, they aren’t limited to the four stages common in conventional synth designs. In fact as many as sixty eight “breakpoints” can be added to an envelope, just by Command+click-ing (PC users: right click!) in the Envelope window.

These envelopes needn’t only affect amplitude and filter cut-off; a whole variety of parameters in a patch can be dynamically controlled by their own multi-stage envelopes.

Also, ABSYNTH’s envelopes have a special “Retrigger” mode, which is ideally suited to creating rhythmic, repetitive sounds that would be quite impossible to achieve with a “normal” synth.

To introduce a few of the tricks you can use, let’s walk through an example demonstrating how to create a simple rhythmic Preset, with a couple of “layers”.

The file “Rhythmic Envelopes Examples” contains a finished Preset, preceded by a series of “snapshots” of the work in progress, so you can hear how it develops at each stage. You may want to refer to this as you work through the following steps.

Getting Started

Start by creating a new bank, then select Preset 0 and click the “env” button to open the Envelopes window. You'll see the default "amp" envelope for oscil 1 (the only active oscil in an initialised patch). By default, each new oscil module produces a steady sine wave, with a fast attack and a slightly slower release.

Our first task is turn this into something a bit more rhythmic.

Open the envelope window. Select the envelope (by clicking anywhere on it) and, from the “mode” menu (which is set to "sustain" by default) choose “retrigger”.

Now from the “transform...” menu, choose “generate AR pulse”. The “Transform Envelopes” dialog will appear, where you'll see a variety of parameters, including “bpm” (tempo in beats per minute), “beat duration”, “# of beats” and so on. Don't worry too much about what these are. For now, just click “OK” to accept the default settings.

The envelope will be automatically transformed, and you'll see something like this:

Now when you press a key on your keyboard, instead of hearing a pure, sustained sine wave, you'll hear a rhythmically pulsing sine wave, in eighth notes, at 120 bpm (these are the default values).

Hint: since we’ll be using each oscil in this Preset to play a monophonic pattern, we can take this opportunity to set the “poly” control on ABSYNTH’s front panel to “1”.

Before we go on, let’s pause and look at a few useful features that can be a big help when making up rhythmic Presets in ABSYNTH.

Click on the “grid” button above the main graphical editor in the Envelopes window, and a grid of dotted lines will appear (the bar with 1.00, 2.00 is displaying seconds). You’ll notice that there are two dotted lines to each beat – so the grid is effectively quantized to eighth notes.

Adjust the retrigger “bpm” setting in the top left corner of the Envelopes window and you'll see that the grid lines move to correspond with the new tempo. However, you'll also notice that the envelope breakpoints do not move – and so changing the tempo effectively puts the pulses of the envelope out of time with the grid.

Activating the “autoscale env” button (below the “bpm” and “beat” number boxes) neatly solves this problem. Now when you adjust “bpm”, the envelope is automatically rescaled to match the new tempo. This makes it easy to audition envelopes at different tempi. In these examples, I've decided to reduce the tempo from 120 to 110 BPM.

Now let’s see if we can make our sine wave pulse a little more interesting. Click on the “new...” button at the top of the Envelopes list, and the “new envelope...” dialog will appear. Since there is only one oscil active in this patch, only “oscil 1” will be available in the “module” menu. Also, since oscil 1 is in “single” mode, the only “parameter” available will be “pitch”. Select “pitch” and click “OK”.


A new, flat envelope (“oscil 1 pitch”) will be created below the original envelope. This envelope has no effect on the sound of the Preset to begin with, since all it does is maintain the pitch of oscil 1 at its initial value. However, we can easily change this.

Click again on the original envelope (“oscil1 amp”) and choose “Copy envelope” from the Edit menu (or press Command + C/ PC: Ctrl + C). Then click on the new envelope (“oscil1 pitch”) and choose “Paste envelope” from the edit menu (or press Command + V/ PC: Ctrl + V). This copies and pastes the “pulsing” envelope from “oscil1 amp” to “oscil1 pitch”.

Now when you hit a key you'll hear that the pitch of oscil1 rapidly drops as the release part of the envelope falls away. This makes for a thumping, percussive sound – a bit like the bass drum in an analog drum machine.

Change the frequency
Since we’ll be using this oscil to play an unpitched percussion phrase, it makes sense to fix it at a suitable frequency. In the Patch window, click on where it says “trans” and, from the pop-up menu that appears, choose “Hz”. You can now set the oscil to any frequency you like – I found a setting of 220 Hz worked pretty well for this sound.

Next, let’s introduce some variation into the phrasing. Delete the second, fourth and sixth “pulses” in both envelopes (“oscil1 amp” and “oscil1 pitch”), by Option+click-ing (PC: righ-clicking) on the breakpoints at the top of each of them.

Click on the breakpoint at the top of the fourth remaining pulse in the “oscil1 amp” envelope, and set the value in the “amp” number box to “0.5000”. Reducing the volume of this pulse brings a little dynamic variation into the phrase – just like varying a MIDI note velocity when programming a drum part in your sequencer.

Hint: activating the “lock” (rather than “slide”) button in the Envelope window is a good idea, as this ensures that when one breakpoint in an envelope is moved, the others remain fixed in position. Also, holding down Ctrl while dragging a breakpoint forces its position to be “snapped” to the grid, keeping things nicely in time.

Adding another layer

Let’s move on a stage, and add another “layer” to the Preset, by bringing another oscil module into play.

Open the patch window, and activate oscil 2, by clicking on its name. As before, we’ll start by transforming the default sine wave tone into something more rhythmic.

In the Envelopes window, select the “oscil2 amp” envelope, then open the “Transform Envelopes” dialog by choosing “generate AR pulse” from the “transform…” menu. Check that the correct tempo (110 bpm in this case) is entered in the “bpm” number box, then click “OK”. Finally, check that the new envelope is set to “retrgger” in the “mode” menu.

We now have a sine wave pulse sync’ed to our “bass drum” pulse. The next step is to change that familiar sine wave tone into something different.

Return to the Patch window, and from oscil 2’s “mode” menu, select “fm”. This changes the oscil module from a simple oscillator to an FM operator.

NI FM7, the most advanced FM synthesizer

Hint: an FM operator is a pair of oscillators that work together in a process called Frequency Modulation or “FM” synthesis. FM Synthesis was made popular in the 1980s by Yamaha’s range of “DX” keyboards, and has recently been brought right up to date by Native Instruments’ FM7.

When an oscil module in ABSYNTH is set to FM mode, you can use the illuminated tabs at the top of the module to switch between settings for the “main” (or “carrier”) oscillator and the “mod” (or “modulator”) oscillator. In FM synthesis, it’s the carrier that produces the sound you hear, while the modulator controls its frequency (and the hence the tonal character of the sound).

Switch over to the “mod” tab and, from the “wave” menu choose “factory” -> “noise 3”. Then enter “3.500” in the “fm index” number box. Now when you hit a key, you’ll hear that oscil 2 produces a more metallic, percussive sound, without such a clearly recognisable pitch.

Once again, since we want this oscil to play an unpitched percussion part, we can fix the oscil at a suitable frequency. I chose 220 Hz for the “main” oscillator, and 200 Hz for the “mod” oscillator – but you should feel free to experiment with whatever you like the sound of.

Fine-tuning

We can fine-tune this new sound further by returning to Envelopes window, and using the “slope” number box to edit some of the pulses in the “oscil2 amp” envelope. The slope setting controls the shape of the envelope between two breakpoints. In other words, it lets you choose whether the breakpoints should be connected by a straight line, or by varying degrees of curve.

Hint: when editing slope values in the Envelopes window, it’s important to remember that it will be the portion of the envelope before the breakpoint you select that will be affected by the changes you make.

If you look at “Step 6” in “Rhythmic Envelopes Examples” you’ll see that I’ve edited all but the third and seventh pulses in the “oscil2 amp” envelope by entering “0.075” as the slope value for the breakpoint at the bottom of each one. This has the effect of deepening the envelope curves and “tightening up” the affected pulses. I’ve also added two extra breakpoints (by Command+click-ing) to allow more control over the “decay” of the pulses on the third and seventh pulses.

Hint: if you want to edit the slope values for every pulse in an envelope, you can save time by choosing “scale” from the “transform” menu, and entering a new slope value in the “Transform Envelopes” dialog. Using the maximum or minimum slope settings can result in almost square envelopes, yielding some interesting effects…

You’ll also notice that I’ve created a new envelope to drop “oscil2 pitch” slightly on these beats, while another reduces the FM index (“oscil2 mod index/bal”) at the same time. The “FM index” is the extent to which the carrier is modulated by the modulator in an FM operator. In this case, reducing it results in a less bright, more solid tone.

Things may seem to be getting a little complicated here, but don’t be deceived. All of these new envelopes started out the same: as simple eighth note pulses generated by the “Transform Envelopes” dialog. Look again, and you’ll see that all of the envelopes used in this Preset are variations on that basic pulse, arrived at via one, or several, of the following methods:

Deleting breakpoints (Option+click-ing)
Adding breakpoints (Command+click-ing)
Moving breakpoints (either by Ctrl+drag-ing, or by selecting a breakpoint and altering the values in the “time” and “amp” number boxes)
Editing envelope curves (by selecting a breakpoint and altering the value in the “slope” number box)


There are no hard and fast rules for doing this: it’s really just a question of looking for sounds you like. Don’t be afraid to experiment: you can’t break anything.

Oscillator module 3

So far we’ve only used two of ABSYNTH’s three available oscil modules, so we still have one left to play with. In “Step 7” I’ve selected one of the factory sawtooth waves for oscil 3, detuned it, and patched it through a resonant low-pass filter module.

Amp and pitch envelopes are used to articulate a simple "bassline" phrase, while a filter frequency envelope (created in the "new envelope" dialog) modulates the filter cutoff.

Once again, these envelopes were all created by experimenting with variations on the basic eighth note pulse, altering “time”, “amp” and “slope” settings as required.

“Step 8” is the final Preset in this series of examples, and simply demonstrates how a little extra warmth can be added to the sound by careful use of the Waveshape module. Even more depth can be added by activating ABSYNTH’s FX – but I’ll leave you to experiment with that yourself.

The examples in this tutorial have really only scratched the surface of the possibilities presented by ABSYNTH’s retriggerable breakpoint envelopes – but hopefully they’ll have set you thinking about how you can make use of these powerful tools in your own music.

Oow ... de autoscale functie in envelopes zit niet meer in absynth 3 dus die kan je vergeten in deze turtorial, en gewoon overslaan !

er is wel eeen onaangename bug in absynth 3 ,namelijk als je master filter moduleert (met de envelopes )dan retriggert hij de loop niet,ik bedoel hij retriggert hem wel maar hij doet geen visuele update...vreslijk

Jepz ... idd ken het.
Kontakt heeft er ook last van. Dus het is waarschijnlijk iets in de 'native fabriek' !?

(ik start de prog meestal even opnieuw op ... dan is ie wel weer normaal)
 
hier nog een absynth pad van mij.
dit stukje is gemaakt uit 1 patch waar ik één akkoord aanhou voor 1 min 30 sec. het enige wat ik doe zijn enkele filter parameters in absynth zelf veranderen.
