http://www.v-tribe.info

Hybrid v2.0 OS/v1.51 ROM installation instructions
Here are the steps needed to run the new v2.0 OS on your V-Synth, but combined with the v1.51 ROM waves and patches, while the v2.0 patches are made available to you on CF disk, which can be loaded as a whole, or selectively imported.
NOTE: This hybrid setup will play all v1.51 and older patches. That is, it sure seems that way.
NOTE: The hybrid setup will NOT play v2.0 patches that use PCM oscillators (because the v2.0 ROM waves are not available).
NOTE: If you don't like the result, you can always go back to standard v2.0 or v1.51 installations.
NOTE: I cannot be held responsible in any way for any losses you suffer as a result of following these steps. Just that you know.
1. Make a backup of your patches! The V-Synth's internal patches WILL be replaced! So don't blame me!
2. Make a backup of your CF card! It's possible that you make a mistake and remove files on your CF card. So be warned and better back up!
3. If you haven't already, install the v2.0 OS, including the waveforms and patches, following the installation instructions.
4. This is a good moment to browse through the v2.0 patch set to find 'essential' patches that you really need. In the main page, check the OSC1 and OSC2 blocks. If one of them says 'PCM' (in *white* text) next to the name, this patch CANNOT be played in the hybrid setup. So if you really need that patch, better stop here.
5. Now save the v2.0 patch set on CF card:
- Make sure a card is inserted and press the MODE button.
- Next, tap DISK, followed by Save Project.
- In the bottom left corner of the screen, tap Card.
- In the top left corner of the screen, tap New Project.
- Enter the name 'Fact v200' and tap OK.
- A warning may be shown, tap EXECUTE.
6. Let's install the hybrid OS/ROM:
- Make sure you have both the v1.51 and the v2.0 installation files handy.
- Unzip both installations.
- Connect the V via USB with your computer.
- Do a standard V-Synth OS installation following the instructions from Roland for your computer, but with the following two exceptions:
a. From the v2.0 installation files you unzipped before, copy ONLY the V-Synth.rom file to the V-Synth 'disk' (the window on your computer). This is the OS.
b. From the v1.51 installation files, copy ONLY the V-SynthDiskImage.bin file to the V-Synth 'disk'. This file holds the ROM waves and patches.
- Now continue with the installation instructions. If all went well this will burn the new hybrid OS on the V. This will take a minute.
7. Switch off the V, and switch it on again. You should see v2.0 mentioned in the boot screen. After it has completely booted, you will probably see the v2.0 patch set, and not the trusty MadOrchestra. To fix that, do this:
- Press the MODE button and tap the FACTORY RESET button on screen. Press EXECUTE. This will install the v1.51 patch set on the V's internal disk.
8. You now have the v2.0 OS running with the older v1.51 ROM waves and patches. Your own patches based on v1.51 or older should also play now, while you still have the new OS features.
9. Some of the new v2.0 patches will play, but only those that do not use PCM oscs. You can load the whole 'Fact v200' project from CF, or you can import single patches, adding them to the current project. To import patches:
- Press the MODE button, tap DISK, followed by Import Files.
- Tap Card, locate the 'Fact v200' folder and when selected, tap Open.
- Select the Patch folder and tap Open again.
- Browse through the patches, and tap OK to import the selected patch. The patch will be copied to the first free patch slot in the current project.
