Het kan aan mij liggen, maar dit lijken me echt hele vage dingen allemaal...

Dat verhaal van die Chip, die een cd/dvd verbetert ?!? WTF..

Description/Theory: The Intelligent Chip is a "new generation," high-tech device that corrects a particular problem inherent in all commercial CD/DVD/SACD discs, including movies and video games. This problem is produced by slight fluctuations in the master clock(s) when pressing the disc. This "clock fluctuation" problem (jitter) is one reason why consumer digital discs frequently "don't sound quite right," or have a "high-frequency edge."

The Intelligent Chip is a thin, orange 1x1.5 inch rectangular wafer that automatically upgrades the disc in the player when the Chip is placed momentarily on top of the player above the spinning disc. The upgrade itself is virtually instantaneous - and permanent - the sound and picture of the upgraded disc more closely resembling the original master recording. The Intelligent Chip corrects the clock-fluctuation problem within 2 seconds, resulting in sound that is clearer/less distorted, with a deeper soundstage, more "air" and lower background noise. This improvement is especially apparent on very good discs.

Dit is typisch zo'n geval van de moderne versie van een oor aan naaien (ja, het zat wel weer aan je hoofd vast maar ging evengoed gewoon rotten en met een beetje pech hield je er ook nog een infectie aan over )

Er zijn wel meer van die merkwaardige 'uitvindingen' die een geweldig maar voor gewone consumenten moeilijk controleerbaar effect hebben. Zoals er bijvoorbeeld zijn

- Astrologie
- de magneten waardoor je auto minder zou gaan gebruiken als je ze op de brandstofleiding plakt
- stickers met condensatoren erin voor op voertuigen, die zouden zorgen voor lagere luchtweerstand.

en ongetwijfeld nog honderden anderen.

Whahaha, dus door een chip boven een cd te houden verander je de cd zelf? als dat waar was dan zouden cd's door alle electronica in de cd speler alleen al zwaar veranderd worden. Claimen dat het geluid meer gaat lijken op de master recording is helemaal geweldig: wat er niet op staat kun je niet zomaar uit het niets tevoorschijn toveren.

Zo een principe bestaat simpelweg niet.

Ik weet dit niet zeker, maar volgens mij is het niet mogelijk lucht te laten trillen met zo'n hoge frequentie (1 GHZ = 1.000.000.000 Hz (trillingen per seconde dus)). Bovendien, wat doen ze nou? Zenden ze een (onhoorbaar) geluid uit of fucken ze met het signaal dat bij je boxen komt? Dat zo'n ding het signaal in je draden kan veranderen geloof ik nog wel, dat kan immers ook met een simpele condensator of spoel er tussen. Ook de vergelijking tussen geluid (trillende lucht) en communicatie signalen (elektromagnetische magnetische straling) is geheel misplaatst.

Maar het best is denk ik nog wel de Soundstage Enhancer (a $1600 per paar):

White noise met een frequentie? Hmmmm.... als er iets is waar weinig informatie uit te halen valt is het wel white noise. Als je iets wilt testen gebruik je liever signalen die te vergelijken zijn. Helemaal geweldig is het natuurlijk dat die dingen de natuurkunde wetten die een rol spelen bij geluid blijkbaar teniet doen:

Er zullen wellicht mensen zijn die deze dingen kopen. Misschien dat ze zelfs verschil horen. Maar placebo's werken ook voor een heleboel mensen.....

Dus sloop ik m'n CD speler open; blijkt daar een blauw rond ding waar 1500uF opstaat in te zitten. Geen wonder dat m'n tracks nooit goed klinken, 'k dacht al even dat het aan mezelf lag .
